Sounds of Animals - Bruits d’animaux

Jul 17, 2026

This document presents an bilingual (English and French) collection of animal sounds, titled 'Sounds of Animals - Bruits d’animaux', authored by Ken Hollingsworth with illustrations by MBANJI Bawe Ernest. Published in 2019 by SIL Cameroon under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), it permits non-commercial use, adaptation, and distribution under similar terms, requiring attribution to authors and illustrators. The work is an excerpt from the 'anthologie de textes classés par niveau de difficultés pour l’enseignement des sciences et de l’éducation civique' and the SIL Cameroon Science and Citizenship Levelled, Integrated Reader. It poses questions about animal noises in both languages, such as 'What noise does a donkey make?' and 'Comment appelle-t-on le bruit de l’âne?', then provides answers with the sounds associated with various animals. For instance, a chicken clucks 'cluck, cluck, cluck' (La poule caquète oc! oc! oc!), a goat bleats 'meh, meh, meh' (La chèvre bêle mee! mee! mee!), a dog barks 'woof, woof, woof' (Le chien aboie muff! muff! muff!), and a cat meows 'meow, meow, meow' (Le chat miaule . miow! miow! miow!). The document is designed to be an educational resource, likely for young learners, introducing them to both animal sounds and basic vocabulary in English and French.
