SHL Assessment Test Overview The SHL assessment test is a multi-choice psychometric test designed to help employers assess specific skills in job applicants. It may include various types of assessments, such as cognitive tests, general ability tests, numerical reasoning tests, and behavioural assessments. Employers using SHL tests include over 75% of FTSE 100 companies and almost half of Fortune Global 500 organizations. SHL publishes its tests in over 30 languages and is widely recognized globally for its assessment capabilities. The test aims to provide valuable insights into a candidate's personality and skills, enabling employers to identify high-potential candidates across various industries and experience levels. Types of SHL Aptitude Tests You will typically receive an email notification from your prospective employer requiring you to take the SHL aptitude exam online. The test usually takes up to 10 days to complete and consists of different question styles for each assessment type, such as numerical reasoning tests and behavioural assessments. Before taking the test, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the interface and format, ensure a comfortable working environment with minimal distractions, and be aware that the test is timed. SHL General Ability Tests These tests assess problem-solving skills using numerical data and logical reasoning decisions. There are two versions of SHL General Ability Tests: SHL Verify Interactive (G+) and SHL General Ability Non-Interactive. SHL tests are used to assess various skills such as numerical, inductive, deductive, verbal, and mechanical reasoning. The SHL numerical test requires solving realistic numerical problems based on graphical, statistical, and financial data. Adaptive questioning is used where questions become harder or easier depending on the candidate's answer, making it challenging to determine a correct solution. To pass, one must be able to work with various types of data. SHL inductive reasoning tests assess the ability to identify patterns between shapes and figures by choosing which image will come next based on probability. Deductive reasoning questions require completing scenarios based on incomplete information, testing both the accuracy and speed of the candidate's answer. SHL verbal reasoning tests evaluate comprehension skills using logical deduction by providing written information for candidates to draw conclusions from. Mechanical reasoning tests, typically encountered in skilled jobs requiring mechanical understanding, assess knowledge through multiple-choice answers. These include revision topics such as levers, pulleys, tools, gears, electric circuits, and more. The weight d2 equals the distance from the fulcrum to where force is applied. The formula yields an equation of 12 x 24 = ? x 15, which simplifies to 288 = ? x 15 and finally 19.2, confirming answer C) as correct. SHL reading comprehension tests assess a candidate's ability to read and understand written passages related to the job role. The test presents multiple-choice questions to gauge comprehension skills. For example, a question states that to gain customer approval, you should: A) ask about their family; B) spend time dealing with their issue; C) find something in common with them. The correct answer is C), as it matches the instruction to "find some common ground" in the passage. SHL Verify Calculation Test evaluates a candidate's ability to perform basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately. The main challenge is completing calculations promptly, which requires learning shortcuts to solve problems efficiently. For instance, one question asks you to identify the Agent with the highest First Call Resolution: A) Agent A; B) Agent B; C) Agent C; or D) Agent D. The correct answer is D) . SHL OPQ Personality Questionnaire assesses working preferences and compares them to employers' requirements. It poses simple ques
