Will you come and look after the canoe?” “Where abouts are you going, Mamasi?” Hetsie asked her big cousin. “At the end of Kulu Island, where I caught all those fish last time." “What are we waiting for?" laughed Hetsie “Whatever you say. You get in and fish, I'll keep the canoe near you." Mamasi slid into the water with her spear and dived. In no time, she was up with a fish.“Hetsie, bring the canoe here! I've got the first one."Hetsie paddled over to her cousin and pulled the fish off the spear “I'm hungry Hetsie looked out over the sea. Are you sure?"“Yes!” screamed Hetsie.“Quick, it's coming fast now!" The shark shot past, then swam in a tight angry circle around them. Mamasi grabbed the other paddle.“Let's get out of here!"she said nervously. They felt a bump against the canoe. “It's attacking us! Paddle! Paddle! Paddle! As fast as you can!” cried Hetsie. You're very brave. That was a clever idea."They pulled the net to the surface. The shark had twisted the net tightly around itself. The men speared it to death. Then they towed it to the shore. The girls followed them. “Tonight, we'll have a big feast,"the men told them.“You must join us You can tell the whole Check Your Understanding 1) How were Hetsi and Mamasi related? a) Brothers b) Sisters c) Cousins d) Friends Check Your Understanding 2) What were the men doing on the beach? a) Fishing b) Cooking c) Hunting d) Relaxing
