Salmon Arm Fish and Game Club - Canadian Firearms Safety Course Guidelines

Oct 3, 2026

This document outlines the mandatory safety protocols established by the Salmon Arm Fish and Game Club for the responsible handling of firearms. Grounded in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course standards, it introduces two essential frameworks: the ACTS principle and the PROVE safety process. The ACTS acronym dictates that users must assume every firearm is loaded, maintain strict muzzle control, keep their finger off the trigger, and verify the weapon is unloaded. Supplementing this, the PROVE procedure provides a systematic five-step methodology for ensuring a firearm is safe by pointing it in a secure direction, removing all ammunition, observing the chamber, verifying the feeding path, and examining the bore. These stringent rules are designed to prevent accidental discharges and promote a culture of uncompromising vigilance among club members, ensuring that every individual who interacts with a firearm follows these universal, standardized safety practices to maintain an injury-free environment.
