FAQs

What is the first step in rounding a number to two significant figures?

The first step is to identify the most significant, or first non-zero, digit and the next digit immediately following it.

How do you determine whether to round up or keep a number the same?

After identifying the first two significant digits, look at the next digit in the sequence. If that digit is 5 or greater, round the second significant digit up; if it is less than 5, keep it the same.

What should be done with the remaining digits after rounding?

All digits following the second significant digit should be removed and replaced with zeros if necessary to maintain the correct placeholder value.
