The ministry said 10,096 newteachers,including more than500 guidance and counsellingteachers,would be placed inschools nationwide this Novem-ber to improve students'psy-chosocial well-being and meetcurrent needs in schools. A total of 600 full-time hostelassistant wardens will also be ap-pointed under the MyStep pro-gramme. “The School-Level Collabora-tion Committee will be rein-forced with the cooperation ofpolice,which includes the role ofschool liaison officers. "Police also conduct safetymonitoring in ministry institu-tions." Among other measures to beimplemented is strengtheningthefunctionof the Smart SupportTeam at the state education de-partment and district educationoffice levels to provide psychoso-cialsupport during crises. It said teachers would receivetraining and exposure to enhancetheir preparedness in handlingemergencies at school. It said the ministry wouldstrengthen the roles of princi-pals,headmasters and disci-plinary committees in address-ingstudent disciplinary issues. “The Student Character Man-agement System will be reviewedfor improvement and must beused to manage disciplinary is-sues,including interventionmeasures. “Educational institutions areurged to focus on appropriate ac-tions to address disciplinary is-sues.” It said teachers'and students'voices in schools will be givendue attention.Dialogue sessionswill be held to better understandtheir needs and concerns. "We will also finalise the ChildProtection Policy soon to safe-guard students in schools."
