Renal dysfunction, malignant neoplasms, atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases, and sarcopenia as key outcomes observed in a three-year follow-up study using the Werner Syndrome Registry

Werner syndrome is an adult-onset progeria syndrome leading to multiple medical complications. This three-year follow-up study analyzed clinical outcomes in 51 registry-enrolled patients with annual data collection and both cross-sectional and longitudinal statistical comparisons. Malignant neoplasms emerged from the fifth decade in about 30% of participants during the survey period. Renal function, assessed by creatinine- and cystatin C–based eGFR, showed index-dependent values and a rapid longitudinal decline. The findings indicate high cancer prevalence and possible fast renal deterioration, supporting active examinations and careful attention to drug selection and dosing.
