Lindsay, the Master of Balliol College at Oxford, explores the complex and evolving intersection of religious belief, scientific advancement, and societal structure in the modern era. Originally published by Yale University Press in 1943, the text provides a historical and philosophical analysis of how these three fundamental pillars of civilization interact, conflict, and ultimately shape the contemporary human experience.
