PharmaSUG 2025-Paper OS-323 Python with Hermione: Unleash your Inner Coding Witch and Dragon Charu Shankar, Jim Box, SAS Institute ABSTRACT Join Hermione Granger on a thrilling 60-minute coding journey where you’ll learn to slay coding challenges like a true wizard—using Python as your magic wand! Just as Hermione faces down dragonsand dark spells with wit and determination, you’ll tackle the essentials of Python programming with her strategic approach to problem-solving. In this fun and fast-paced class, you'll learn to master Python’s core elements: variables, functions, and loops—all with the same precision Hermione uses when crafting complex spells. Python’s readable syntax will make you feel like you’re casting spells in no time, whether you're automating tasks or working with data. By the end of this adventure, you’ll be equipped to conquer coding challenges like a seasoned wizard, ready to take on any dragon (or program) that comes your way. Grab your wand (keyboard) and let’s start coding like Hermione! INTRODUCTION Step into the world of magic and coding, where Python becomes your wand and every line of code is a spell waiting to be cast. In this session, we’ll channel our inner Hermione Granger to unlock Python’s incredible potential, solving complex data challenges like never before. With over 8 million Python developers worldwide and the language’s presence in nearly 80% of data science projects, Python is no longer just a trend—it’s essential for navigating today’s data-driven world. Its versatility, ease of use, and expansive libraries make it the go-to tool for tackling everything from automation to machine learning. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced coder, get ready to sharpen your skills, confront the dragons of data analysis, and cast the perfect spell for your data needs. Let’s make your coding journey as powerful as it is magical! Agenda 1. Introduction What Is Python Python application in analytics industry Why should you learn Python to work with SAS 2. It’s versatile, easy to read, and is used for everything from data analysis to web development.
With Python, you can quickly solve problems and automate tasks, much like casting a wellplanned charm to get results in the wizarding world. | | | Python application in analytics industry
• Python supports object-oriented programming, structured programming, and functional programming patterns.
• Python is generally considered‘the second best language for everything’. As a jack of all trades, python is not well-suited to statistical analysis, but organizations see advantage in standardizing & using it. standard libraries exceed 72,000 & growing daily
• Python’s inherent readability and simplicity with the vast number of libraries available helps data scientists find packages tuned to their needs. | | | --- | --- | | 6
