This document is a 1971 facsimile reprint of John Brinsley's 1617 work, Pueriles Confabulatiunculae, published by The Scolar Press Limited as part of the English Linguistics 1500-1800 series. Edited by R.C. Alston, the publication reproduces an exceptionally rare original copy held by St. Mary's Church in Marlborough. The text provides historical context on Brinsley's pedagogical methods, specifically his advocacy for using translation and dialogues to teach Latin grammar effectively to children, a technique inspired by Maturin Cordier. By removing the traditional harshness associated with Latin instruction, Brinsley aimed to foster linguistic fluency, accurate sentence construction, and balanced judgment in students. The volume is an essential reference for scholars of Renaissance education, early modern linguistics, and the history of language pedagogy in England.
