Jul 19, 2026

This document, a primer on large-scale assessments of educational achievement, specifically focuses on country participation in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) between 1995 and 2019. The visual representation, a world map, color-codes countries based on the total number of TIMSS testing rounds they have participated in during this period, with a legend indicating participation counts from 1 to 7, and a 'No Data' category. Darker shades of green denote higher participation rates, with the darkest green representing 7 or more testing rounds. Countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and many European and some Asian nations exhibit high participation. Lighter shades indicate fewer rounds, and some countries are marked as having no data. The data visualized is crucial for understanding the global engagement and consistency of participating nations in TIMSS, a vital tool for benchmarking educational performance in mathematics and science.
