Piping and Instrumentation Diagram Development presents a structured, engineering-focused approach to creating and managing P&IDs, covering what a P&ID is, why it matters, and how it is developed through defined activities and milestones. The content explains P&ID anatomy, general drafting rules, item identification, symbols and tags, and visual conventions such as line and equipment crossing and off-page connectors. It also addresses different P&ID types, stakeholder and plant operations considerations, and processes for tracking changes across development stages.

FAQs

What is a P&ID and why is it important?

A P&ID is described as a key diagram type for chemical plants, and the book explains its importance by linking it to clear communication of piping and instrumentation information.

What are the main stages and management elements in P&ID development?

The document outlines project planning for developing P&IDs, milestones, involved parties, P&ID set ownership, required quality at each stage, evolution of sets, change tracking, and estimation of required man-hours.

What visual and drawing rules are emphasized for creating P&IDs?

It covers general rules for drawing, including how to handle item representation such as pipes, equipment, instruments, and signals, plus visual rules like line crossing, equipment crossing, off-page connectors, and use of color, along with symbol, tag, and technical information identification.
