I don't think it is very typical for poetry and prose-poetry to be represented in asingle work, but after working with this collection for a while I felt it was the rightway to go.Of course, the dividing line between prose-poetry and poetry can beblurred at times.Poetry depends more on imagery to carry the ball,so to speak, while prose-poetry focuses more on concepts and ideas that are expressed in away that reminds one of poetic discourse—hopefully. I have also been influenced by readings in science, especially in the area ofcosmology. In terms of spirituality,I am interfaith, drawing inspiration primarilyfrom Buddhism, liberal Christianity,Native American thought and Judaism, inmore of a cultural sense.I call myself an advocate for the poor and am veryconcerned about issues of social justice. One of my mantras is borrowed from thewriting of writer Michael Connelly:"Everybody counts or nobody counts."Theother is one I made up,but of course I have been influenced by many otherwriters in composing this aphorism:Seek justice for yourself AND others. Obviously,I am drawn to writing short poetry, but I might break that mold in mynext poetic work. This work has narrative features which are conveyed in a somewhat zig-jagfashion,but I think that most readers can gain a sense of the basic story line.
