Our Fortunes is a literary work authored by Julie Kalendek and published by Burning Deck Press in 2003. This collection represents a significant contribution to contemporary poetry, following the author's previous literary involvements, including the translation of A Lesson in Music by Jean Daive. The publication includes acknowledgments regarding a French translation titled Quand la vie se fait division, originally published in 1999. The book is structured into three distinct sections: Retraction, Make, and Our Fortunes. The physical edition features cover art by Keith Waldrop and was supported by a grant from the Greenwall Fund of The Academy of American Poets. It serves as a testament to the author's exploration of linguistic and thematic depth within contemporary literary discourse. This work is an essential read for those interested in modern poetic forms and the evolution of experimental literature at the turn of the century, capturing complex ideas through its minimalist yet evocative structure.
