OSAS Mathematics Sample Test Scoring Guides explain the structure of Grade 3 Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) items, including claim, domain, target, Depth of Knowledge (DOK), related standards, and links to the English, Spanish, and Braille versions. The guide describes how correct responses are determined and notes that not every student response type appears in every sample test. It also outlines how to access OSAS sample tests via the OSAS Portal and how to select presentation language and accessibility features, including test session requirements for Braille embossing.

OSAS Grade 3 Math CAT Sample Test Item Overview

Oregon Statewide Assessment System OSAS Mathematics Sample Test Scoring Guide Grade 3 CAT: English, Spanish, and Braille Items Revised: October 2025 About the OSAS Sample Test Scoring Guides The OSAS Mathematics Sample Test Scoring Guides provide details about the items, student response types, correct responses, and related scoring considerations for the Sample Test items. The items selected for the Sample Test reflect a broad range of: • claims and targets that mirror the full Smarter Balanced summative test blueprint • student response types • difficulty and cognitive complexity levels across items It is important to note that not all student response types are fully represented on every sample test, but a distribution can be observed across all sample tests . The items presented are reflective of refinements and adjustments to language based on pilot test results and expert recommendations from both content and accessibility perspectives . This guide begins with a table that contains the following information for each item 1 : • Claim: a statement derived from evidence about college and career readiness • Domain: a broad content area that contains related targets and standards (e.g., Data Reasoning) • Target: a cluster heading from Oregon's K-12 Math Standards; in Oregon, students are assessed on targets (i. e., clusters) rather than standards • Depth of Knowledge (DOK) : measure of cognitive complexity required by students in processing their response to an item. DOK ranges from 1 (least complex) to 4 (most) • 2021 Oregon K-12 Math Standards: includes content standard (all claims) and Standard for Mathematical Practice (claims 2 – 4) • Link to Item in English and Link to Item in Spanish: lead to item reproductions that include o Item Image: image of item and response features from test delivery system o Answer: expected student response and number of score points possible 􀂃 Note: where applicable, equivalent values are accepted as correct (e.g., 1/2 and 2/4, x = 4 and 4 = x, etc.) 1 Most of these terms (Claim, Domain, Target, DOK, etc. ) are further defined in the Smarter Balanced Content Specifications and the 2021 Oregon K-12 Math Standards. The following items are representative of the kinds of items that students experience when taking the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) portion of the OSAS Math Test for this specific grade level. A sample Performance Task (PT) and scoring guide are also available on the OSAS Portal. More information about the OSAS Mathematics Tests, including their increasing alignment with the 2021 Oregon K-12 Math Standards, can be found on ODE's Math Assessment webpage. Accessing the OSAS Sample Tests OSAS Sample and Training Tests are available on the OSAS Portal. A login is not required. To access the Sample Tests, first sign in as a guest user (Figure 1) in a guest session (Figure 2), then select the desired grade level (Figure 3) . Note that OSAS Sample Tests in Mathematics are available in grades 3 – 12; the tests in grades 9 – 12 are identical. Note: Students may access the OSAS Sample and Training Tests with their unique login information to practice using any accessibility features they may require. This requires a Test Session be started via the “TA Practice Site” on the OSAS Portal. Consult the OSAS Test Administrator User Guide for more details. Figure 1. How are correct responses handled for the sample test items?

Equivalent values are accepted as correct where applicable, such as equivalent fractions and forms of expressions.

How can a user access the OSAS Grade 3 Math Sample Test CAT and change presentation language?

The user signs in as a guest on the OSAS Portal, selects the desired grade level, chooses the OSAS Summative ELA, Math, and Science menu, and starts the Math CAT Sample Test. Presentation language can be set so items can be toggled between English and Spanish, and Braille display requires additional test session steps for embossing.
