Told to go about their task convincingly, the soldiers charged in Act V with their old battle-cry “Allah! Allah!” As the audience in Snow is confronted with a violence that is more real than they had hoped for, the anecdote’s theatregoers are faced with a situation which, if not real in itself, points to a Turkish reality whose Orientalness is stronger than envisaged and ready to pop up
