Oct 6, 2026

Oath of Fun presents a paladin subclass for D&D 5E built around performance, slapstick, and chaotic spectacle. It defines the subclass’ guiding tenets—fun first, pleasing crowds, humility before one’s master, and embracing mayhem—then outlines oath spells and level-based features. Channel Divinity options enable manipulating participation and forcing laughter, while a slapstick aura turns mishaps into escalating comedic failures. Additional abilities expand pyrotechnic retaliation, increase aura range, and culminate at 20th level in a transformative avatar of spectacle.

OATH OF FUN A PALADIN SUBCLASS FORD &D 5E BY ERIN TIERNEY Oath Of fun Paladins ofthe Oath of Fun are performers. They revel in entertaining people, even if that entertainment comes at others expense. They combine physical slapstick with cutting jokes, never letting social mores, decorum, or even good taste get in the way of a performance. They find work in performance troops and circuses, spreading fun to as many people as they can. Some paladins ofthe Oath ofFun even become ringleaders, although many find too much purpose in their own performances to manage others’. The Oath ofFun does not specifically call for paladins to deliver pain unto others, but many do so when they find it funny. They adorn their armor – which often also serves as their costumes onstage – with wicked spikes, jagged edges, or motley patterns. tenets Of fun The tenets of the Oath of Fun are loosely passed down from Rakdos himself. He does not particularly notice if paladins follow them, but definitely cares when they break them. Fun. First and foremost, I do what I enjoy and what I find funny. Entertainment. I will please the crowds. Whether they want shock, ridicule, or spectacle, I will provide it. Humility. Pride is for my master alone. I am but a humble performer, and I will humble those who try to stand above me as well. Mayhem. What’s life without a little disarray? Audience Participation. You can use your Channel Divinity to goad someone into accosting their neighbor. As an action, you can target a non-hostile creature within 30 feet that you can see and that can hear and understand you. You speak a short suggestion to the creature, no more than one sentence. This suggestion can be a performance, such as juggling or singing a song, which the creature will attempt to the best of their ability. Alternatively, you can suggest that they bother another creature – yell at them, attempt to steal something from them, or even strike them. If you choose this option, they must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, they take an action attempting to follow your words. Targets do not realize that they are being magically influenced by this ability, but do understand the words you said to them. Invoke Hilarity. You can use your Channel Divinity to inspire laughter around you. As an action, you can force every creature within 5 feet of you that can see or hear you to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they become incapacitated, unable to do anything other than laugh. Creatures with Intelligence 4 or lower are immune to this effect. An afflicted creature can repeat the saving throw at the end ofits turn or whenever it takes damage to end the effect. aura Of slapstiCk Starting at 7th level, you constantly emanate a chaotic aura while you’re not incapacitated, turning a failure into a hilarious failure.
