On June 14, 2024, a food poisoning incident in Gombak led to the deaths of a two-year-old and a seventeen-year-old, prompting a police investigation. Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir stated that five additional individuals, including family members, a pathologist, and a waiter, had their statements recorded to aid the inquiry. Previously, eight statements were taken from the catering operator and event organizers. The implicated food, fried vermicelli and eggs prepared for a school program, reportedly had an unusual appearance and taste. The Selangor Health Department reported that salmonella was detected in stool samples from affected individuals, though no definitive source of contamination was immediately identified, as food preparation and handler vaccinations were reportedly adequate. The department awaits results from other clinical samples to further the investigation into the Gombak food poisoning case.
