AboutOur GuestEditor... My Daily Visitor's guest editor for Au-gust is Bishop Thomas K.Gorman of the Dio-cese of Dallas-Fort Worth.A native of Cali-fornia,Bishop Gorman coinpleted his formaleducation at the Catholic University of Amer-ica in Washington,D.C.,and at the Univer-sity of Louvain,Belgium. SUCCESS is important in the world in whichwe live.We want to succeed in school exami-nations,in winning an ideal mate in marriage,in a business deal,in ambition, social or rank—we want to succeed in life. LOOK AT the really successful individ-uals in any area of activity-the successfulscientist,lawyer,industrialist,financier,actor,author-and you will see that work, latehours, sacrifices, even sometimes schemingand cheating, have produced their success. THEY ARE single-minded toward asingle goal. They will let nothing stand intheir way, will hesitate at nothing that willbring them closer to success. AND WE?Children of light are we.Dowe work so diligently, sacrifice ourselves andour comfort, plan and scheme to be successfulin the work of our soul's eternal welfare?Arewe single-minded toward a single goal? The children of this world are wiser in theirgeneration than the children of light.-Luke 16,8. SO OFTEN riches are identified with virtueamong us.So often we seek the company ofthe wealthy, the clever, the smart set, thechic, the influential. So often we seek to beidentified with the affluent and take pleasurein our place among them-a better car,a bet-ter house,a better neighborhood. IN A MOMENT of whispered gracewe look around, and where is Christ?Whereis Christ within us? THERE IS nothing wrong in riches, rightly gained and rightly used. There isdanger in riches used to turn us in upon our-selves selfishly without a thought to thestewardship of God's blessings-blessings,even,if gained by our talents, which are alsoGod-given. ST.ALPHONSUS LIGUORI,the son ofa distinguished family, left the practice of lawand a comfortable life,to become a priest andidentify himself with the poor. There hefound Christ. PRAYER,however we may look at it,is sim-ply conversation with God. BUT THIS noisy, rushing world in whichwe live sweeps us along without time to stopand talk with the One who knows us best, knows our problems better than we do,and isalways ready to give us a hearing. WE DO NOT pause to think nor pause tospeak to Him,and so we are almost strangers. We are embarrassed when we are left alonewith our thoughts before God,almost asthough we are left alone with a total stra
