Module 40 - Software Engineering Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - Introduction

Oct 25, 2026

Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) explains a structured process for developing, designing, and maintaining software by ensuring user requirements, objectives, and end goals are addressed. SDLC focuses on quality enhancement of both the software project and the overall development effort through process compliance. It defines core goals such as delivering high-quality systems, providing strong management controls (efficiency, effectiveness, cost control, customer satisfaction), and maximizing staff productivity. The module also outlines SDLC benefits and stage-wise progression, including requirement gathering and analysis details.

FAQs

What does SDLC stand for and what is its purpose?

SDLC stands for Software Development Life Cycle. It provides a process for developing, designing, and maintaining software so that functionalities and user requirements are addressed.

What are the main goals of SDLC?

SDLC aims to deliver high-quality systems, provide strong management controls (including efficiency, effectiveness, process compliance, cost control, and customer satisfaction), and maximize the productivity of the systems staff.

What benefits does SDLC provide during development?

SDLC ensures successful implementation by requiring stage completion and approval before moving forward, adds necessary checks at each stage for precise testing, and helps the team continue development without complications through optimal control.
