If you are touring you will be logging many hours in busses, vans, and planes. If you are vacationing, there may be hours at the pool, lake, or beach. Maybe you are a homebody and just enjoy a good read. Or maybe you will have a little more time between all that extra practice time now that school is out. Of course, I recommend taking Modern Drummer with you to read on your laptop or phone. There is no AI content here (!!!) all original, no weird edits, and everything comes directly from your favorite drummers. Aren’t you tired of doom-scrolling and watching the same recycled clips on YouTube and TikTok? After devouring the recent issues of Modern Drummer don’t let your attention wander. As a drummer and music lover, there are MANY good books about drumming and music. Immerse yourself in your passion. This immersion will further inform your playing, musicianship, and knowledge of music. This month we reviewed Backbeats by John Lingan, it’s a great book. Last year Modern Drummer published Frank Zummo’s Unbreakable Rhythm: My Journey Through Music, Wellness & Mental Strength. We recently reviewed the exhaustive Land ofa Thousand Sessions: The Complete Muscle Shoals Story 1951-1985 by Rob Bowman. A few years ago we interviewed the author of Drumsville: The Evolution of the New Orleans Beat. Then we talked to Joe Boyd about his book And the Routes of Rhythm Remain, to Peter Dawn about his Phil Seamen biography, and to Joe
