In order to secure or maintain a slender figure,it is neither necessary nor desirable to go on aSpartan or a freak diet, giving up customary foodsfor black coffee and grapefruit, bananas and milk, hard boiled eggs and lettuce.Few can stand themonotony of such menus, which are besides un-balanced and lacking in certain nutritive sub-stances essential for health. The simple tech-nique is just to cut down the quantity of foodeaten at regular mealtimes, restricting severelythe amount of fat, fried foods, butter, cream, sweets, gravies, sauces, pastry and other desserts. The most effective regimen calls for three regu-lar meals a day, with special emphasis on a break-fast high in protein, such as eggs and meat.Ex-perts point out that a hearty breakfast gets thebody off to a good start and makes it easier forone to cut down on the amount of food eaten atlunch and dinner, and forego snacks altogether, except perhaps for a cup of black coffee in themidmorning, fruit or tomato juice in the after-noon.It cannot be too strongly emphasized thatan effective reducing program calls for eating atregular hours.Skipping a meal is likely to stepup the appetite at the next one and make thetemptation to nibble between meals irresistible.
