It is a love letter from God to man. “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting life.”(John 3:16) Here is the whole message of the Bible. It is the Gospel. It is the “good ” news. How do we find Bible messages? The Bible has two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament comes first. The second section is the New Testament. The two sections have 66 parts altogether. We call these parts books. Most Bibles have lists of these books on a front page. John is the fourth book of the New Testament.“John 3:16” tells where the Gospel message is. John is the book, 3 is the number of the chapter and 16 is the number of the verse. All Bible references have these three parts. They are like addresses that tell the name of a country, the town, and the street number of someone’s house. Working with Bible references becomes easy with practice. Some people say,“Where’s all this good news and love?" There is much poverty in the world. Millions of people are hungry. Some are starving. They don’t know what to believe or who to trust. There is tension or war everywhere. Why? There are two great spirits at war, God and Satan. God loved the very first human beings, but He wanted them to be free to love Him. So He did not destroy Satan. The very first human beings chose Satan. Satan is the father of lies, war, sickness, pain, confusion and hopelessness. But where men and women choose to serve God, there is always hope. God can act! The Bible says it. The Bible gives hope: For despair: God made everything – Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-5 . He is in charge. For heavy pain or grief: Psalm 23, Romans 8:26-28, I Corinthians 1:3-5 . He cares for us, sends His Spirit to help us, and gives us real peace when we stay with Him. For loneliness and fear: Psalms 23, 91 and 121, Isaiah 26:3 and 41:10, Philippians 4:6-7 and Hebrews 13:5-6 .
