The book of Acts tells his story. Paul preached about Jesus in different countries. He helped to start many churches. When he was away from these churches, he wrote letters to them. The letters had good teaching. They made the believers strong. They can make us strong. Paul’s letters make up almost one-third of the New Testament in our Bible. Christians have read them for hundreds of years. Most of the Jewish priests were jealous of both Jesus and Paul. They tried to kill Paul with stones. He went to prison because he would not stop preaching about Jesus. He wrote some of his letters while in prison. In the prison, guards watched him day and night. Paul studied what the guards wore. Heavy belts kept their armor tight. Metal covered their hearts and stomachs. Helmets protected their heads. Paul also thought about what soldiers wore in battle. Shields kept enemy arrows away. Soldiers held swords in their hands. They wore thick leather on their feet. They often walked for hundreds of miles. The sixth chapter of Ephesians tells about a special armor. Paul was in prison when he wrote this chapter. Paul wrote words like these: “Be strong with the Lord’s strength. Put on the things God gives you to fight with. Then you will not fall into the traps of the Devil. Our fight is not with people. It is with the leaders and the powers and the spirits of darkness in this world. It is against demons that work in the heavens.” “Put on all the things God gives you to fight with. Put on his armor. Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy’s attack. When it is allover, you will still be standing.” “Keep truth as a belt tight round your waist. Have righteousness as your breastplate. Let your shoes bethe readiness to announce the Good News of peace. At all times carry faith as a shield. With it you will be able to put out the burning arrows from the Evil One. Wear salvation as a helmet. The Word of God will be your sword.” “You must pray at all times. Let the Holy Spirit lead ” you. Roman soldiers did not cover their backs. They wanted to go forward only. Many of them might walk close to each other with their shields held tight together. They made a wall that could move. Christians can move in this way, too. They can join together against evil powers. We should not be afraid of Satan, but we must remember that he is real He is real and all around us. We can fight him with God’s armor. We need to use what God gave us. Here are the parts of Paul’s special armor: Belt of Truth . A Roman’s belt held him together. We need a belt of truth to hold ourselves together. We trust the Bible. We may not understand parts of it. But the Holy Spirit makes the Bible clear if we ask Him. We take time to study and listen. The Bible teaches us truth. When we have a question, we should ask God.
