Lingua Comica 3 - FUSE is an illustrated anthology presenting collaborative comics created by 14 Asian and European artists. The project was developed by the Asia-Europe Foundation with partners including the Kyoto International Manga Museum and several organisers and facilitators. Artists formed Asia-Europe pairs, selected an “East meets West” topic, used online communication to shape dialogue, then completed an eight-day residency in Kyoto. The book highlights creative process, cross-cultural learning, and new storytelling possibilities through graphic art.

The Asia-Europe Foundation(ASEF)started its firstprogramme in comics,Lingua Comica,in 2006.Since then,over 60 comic artists from Asia and Europe have taken partin the artistic residencies and worked on the publicationsunder this scheme.By focusing more on their dialogue andtheir creative process,rather than on the possible 'commercial'outcome of their collaboration,the participating artists wereable to enjoy this programme as a cross-cultural learningexperience,as well as an opportunity for networking andprofessional development. Lingua Comica may even be considered as a programmepromoting a new genre in the field of comics and graphicnovels,one that focuses on the Asia-Europe dimension.ASEFis proud that the projects of Lingua Comica have led to thecreation of many lasting partnerships and collaborationsbetween emerging talents and professionals in the field. This publication showcases the work of 14 Asian and Europeanartists who came together for the third Lingua Comica editionheld in Kyoto,Japan,in 2008.
