We’ve done more than simply revamp the look of our former Unimagazin; we also want the magazine’s content to clearly communicate our research and our mission as Leibniz University Hannover to a broader audience. We present science as expertise – expertise that has an impact; that solves problems, explaining and contextualising them to open up options; and that takes on responsibility instead of remaining in the proverbial ivory tower. We want this magazine to give you an understanding of what the researchers at Leibniz University Hannover are accomplishing, the questions they are asking, and the approaches they are taking to address the urgent challenges of our time – from climate change and education to the digital transformation and the pressures on our healthcare system. LUH boasts outstanding expertise in these and many other fields. Our Clusters of Excellence, which conduct cutting-edge research to identify solutions to pressing societal issues, are a good example of this. The magazine focuses on projects from six Future Labs that we are establishing at LUH to conduct impact-oriented research and teaching development. These labs will aim to make a visible and measurable contribution to solving societal, economic, ecological and political problems: How can our cities remain habitable despite climate change? How can AI be used to diagnose illnesses? How can technology and production be taken to a new level? How can the vision of a green power plant in the North Sea contribute
