FAQs

What is the Bekka program and how are students placed into levels?

The Japanese Language and Culture Program (JLCP), commonly called the Bekka Program, offers courses for developing Japanese language skills and cultural knowledge. Students take a placement test and are assigned to Level 1–7.

What grading and credit system information is provided for Bekka?

The fact sheet lists a pass/fail grading model and a GPA-style grade point mapping for letter grades A+ through F. It also states minimum credits per semester and how credit relates to class instruction minutes, noting that home institutions decide credit equivalency when transferring.

What language requirements apply for Fall 2022 exchange students?

For Japanese-taught undergraduate courses, the sheet specifies JLPT N5 (after July 2019) for general basic requirements and higher benchmarks (including placement levels) for attending undergraduate courses. For English-taught courses, it indicates no required test for admission but recommends TOEIC L&R, TOEFL iBT/PBT, or IELTS minimum proficiency levels.
