SPONSORED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TEACHING GUIDE CruiSe Into a Monster Summer VacAtion Exciting ELA Activities for Grades 2-4. USE THE MINI-PosteR Have students identify their own favorite summer vacation activities by using the mini classroom poster. ASK What activities make summer memorable and fun? What new experiences do you hope to have this summer? DO Have students write from the perspective of a Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation character, describing what the character might choose as his or her favorite summer vacation destination or activity. STUDENT ACTIVITY 1 Monster Mystery Message IN THEATERS JULY 13 STEPS 1) Distribute Student Activity Sheet 2. Have students follow the directions to fill in their favorite summer friends, meals, and activities. 2) Instruct students to cut out the booklet pages along the border on the dotted lines. Then ask students flip the pages so that the blank sides are facing each other. Have them glue the blank sides together and fold in half with the cover on the outside. 3) Encourage students to color the illustrations featured on the books. 4) Invite students to share their books with classmates. 5) Extend learning by having students write opinion pieces or narratives, choosing one summer vacation or activity to focus on. For their nonfiction opinion GOAL Students will use a key featuring characters from Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation to decode a secret message. MATERIALS Student Activity Sheet 1, writing supplies STEPS 1) Distribute Student Activity Sheet 1. 2) Instruct students to use the key to write the correct letter on the blank space under each character. Once all are complete, it will reveal the hidden message. 3) Ask students to share their answers. The correct message is “A Hotel on Water.” STUDENT ACTIVITY 2 Monster Memory Book GOAL Students will identify what they most like about summertime and which summers have been the most memorable. MATERIALS Activity Sheet 2, writing and coloring supplies, scissors, glue pieces, they should describe what made it their favorite vacation or activity. For their narratives, students should write scenes, describing the event and who took part. STUDENT ACTIVITY 3 Postcards From Paradise GOAL Students complete postcards about their summer plans, from Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation characters’ perspectives and/or their own, and share ideas with friends. MATERIALS Student Activity Sheet 3, writing and coloring supplies, scissors STEPS 1) Distribute Student Activity Sheet 3. 2) Instruct students to complete the postcard text. Extend the fun by having students share their postcards with their families, or share them with each other at the class Monster Bash.(See the party planning guide on the next page.)
