This delightful story by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague explores the behavior of dinosaurs when they play with friends, specifically addressing the concepts of sharing, kindness, and positive social interaction. Through engaging rhymes, the book examines common childhood challenges, such as dealing with frustration when things do not go as planned, the temptation to hoard toys, or difficulties in sharing playground equipment. Instead of acting out with moping, pouting, or selfish behavior, the dinosaurs demonstrate model social skills. They willingly share their trucks, offer tricycle rides, and allow their companions to choose the games they play. The narrative emphasizes the importance of empathy and friendly cooperation, offering young readers valuable lessons on how to be a considerate playmate. By contrasting negative behaviors with the friendly actions of the dinosaurs, the story reinforces the idea that true friendship is built on generosity and mutual respect, making it an excellent resource for teaching social-emotional intelligence to young children in a fun and memorable way.
