HEAVY DUTY HG560 - Cast Iron Slide Gate - Description

HEAVY DUTY HG560 Cast Iron Slide Gates manage fluid flow through openings under a face/seating head or under a back/unseating head. The water pressure created by seating or face pressure forces the gate slide against its frame, supporting watertight performance; with back pressure, the slide is pushed away from seating surfaces and total forces must be resisted by wedging devices and assembly bolts. The document also outlines available gate opening types (square, rectangular, and round flange) and key structural design guidance.

FAQs

What is the purpose of a cast iron slide gate like the HG560?

It controls the flow of fluid through openings under a face/seating head or under a back/unseating head.

How does face pressure affect the gate slide?

With seating or face pressure, fluid exerts a force on the front of the gate and the pressure forces the gate slide against the frame.

How is back pressure different and what components resist it?

Back pressure occurs when fluid depth is greater on the back side, pushing the slide away from the frame; the total force is resisted by wedging devices and assembly bolts.
