Heat wave June 2026 - Report No. 1 compiles meteorological, hydrological, and impact analyses focused on Western and Central Europe, with special attention to Germany. The report covers the onset and timeline of the event, large-scale pressure patterns, air-mass evolution at 850 hPa, atmospheric circulation, weather regimes, sea-surface-temperature changes, and comparisons with previous heat waves using ERA5. It further evaluates precipitation and water balance, streamflow and water temperature, lake levels, groundwater, soil moisture and drought development, and implications for renewable energy generation, energy supply, demand, and electricity prices.

FAQs

What are the main meteorological components analyzed for the June 2026 heat wave?

The report analyzes large-scale pressure patterns, 850 hPa air-mass evolution, atmospheric circulation changes, weather regimes and persistence, and sea-surface-temperature evolution during the heat wave.

How does the report assess hydrological impacts during the heat wave?

It examines precipitation and climatic water balance, streamflow, stream water temperature trends, lake water levels, groundwater, and soil moisture including topsoil drought development and moisture-limitation coupling.

What renewable-energy impacts does the report discuss?

It links meteorological anomalies to renewable energy generation and evaluates how the heat wave affected energy supply, demand, and prices, including changes in load shapes and regional electricity price patterns during peak hours.
