It brings together members from the Faculty of Letters; Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures; and Faculty of Social Communication and Media Studies. The Centre also collaborates with scholars, educators, and librarians from other institutions in Poland and abroad. The research carried out at CBLDM focuses on children’s literature and culture. Continuing the tradition of researching children’s literature at the University of Wrocław, which dates back to the 1960s. The CBLDM members have intensified and expanded it, bringing together various scholarly perspectives, both those strongly rooted at the Faculty of Letters (e.g. historical and cultural criticism, reader-response studies, translation studies, media studies, linguistics, library and information science) and those originating from other fields (e.g. popular culture studies, gender studies, participatory research, child-led research, childhood studies, memory studies, posthumanism). The Centre organizes conferences, seminars, and workshops, participates in international projects, develops collaboration with similar research units and cultural institutions in Poland and abroad, hosts Polish and international colleagues, and disseminates knowledge about children’s and young adult literature. Scholars of children’s literature and culture from around the world present their work, addressing topics of literary and cultural significance as well as pressing social issues.
