Grade thresholds for the March 2026 Cambridge International AS & A Level Biology (9700) exam series provide minimum marks for component and syllabus grades. Tables list raw mark requirements for each component (12, 22, 33, 42, 52) and show how weighted component thresholds translate into grade bands (A* to E). Guidance explains that A* is not awarded at individual component level, and that syllabus thresholds depend on weighted combinations for both linear and staged assessment routes.

Syllabus grade thresholds Syllabus grade thresholds for syllabus 9700 (Biology) in the March 2026 exam series. Syllabus grade thresholds are the minimum marks required for each grade. They are determined from the weighted component thresholds for the listed components. Some Cambridge International entry options offer more than one possible route to a grade. Where this is the case, candidates are awarded the best grade available to them based on the combination of components they have taken. They are an additional piece of information provided on the Statements of Results for each candidate. This mark is not the same as the raw or component mark achieved and cannot be used with the grade thresholds documentation. See our guide to percentage uniform marks which gives an explanation of what percentage uniform marks are and states the percentage uniform mark range (thresholds) .

FAQs

Do candidates receive A* based on individual component marks?

No. A* does not exist at the level of an individual component; it is based on overall combinations as shown in the syllabus grade thresholds.

How are syllabus grade thresholds determined for Biology 9700?

Syllabus grade thresholds are the minimum marks required for each grade and are determined from the weighted component thresholds for the listed components.

What is the difference between raw component marks and weighted marks in the tables?

Component grade thresholds use minimum raw marks required for each grade, while syllabus grade thresholds use maximum weighted marks derived from the selected component combinations.
