June 2018 A-level unit grade boundaries document describing how raw marks are used for single-component units, and how marks are scaled and aggregated for two-component units before determining A and E boundaries. It then explains calculation of intermediate grade boundaries B, C, and D, including A2 A* conversion points. The document provides tables of unit grade boundaries and A* conversion points by subject code, with maximum marks and grade boundary ranges.

Grade boundaries – June 2018 exams A-level – qualifications that use uniform marks Here you can see the unit grade boundaries for A-level AS and A2 units. For units which comprise one component these are raw mark grade boundaries. Units comprising two components In units comprising two components, the grade boundary marks sometimes need to be scaled before they are aggregated to the overall unitlevel. In these instances only the grade A and E scaled boundary marks are shown for each component as only these are set by the awarding committee. These scaled marks are then added to obtain unit-level grade A and E boundaries, at which point the intermediate grade B, C and D boundary marks are calculated for the unit as a whole (including the grade A* conversion points for A2 units) . Where both unit and component grade boundary marks are reported, the unit is listed first, followed by its components (shaded and italicised) . FAQs

How are grade boundaries determined for one-component A-level units?

For units comprising one component, the document states that the boundaries are given as raw mark grade boundaries.

What changes for grade boundaries in two-component units?

For two-component units, component marks may need scaling before aggregation; only the A and E scaled boundary marks are shown per component, then used to derive unit-level A and E boundaries.

What additional steps are included for A2 units?

For A2 units, the document notes that intermediate grade boundaries B, C and D are calculated for the unit as a whole, including the grade A* conversion points.
