Moonlight shined through the window, filling the room and illuminating a man dressed in a dark gray suit with a matching waistcoat and ascot tie. He was a little round in the mid-section, but not overly so, with mousy hair that was more gray than brown and a matching handlebar mustache that curled almost into circles on both ends. He appeared old enough to be her father but was far from it. Waiting patiently, he watched as she clasped the burgundy red puff tie around her neck and tucked the tails behind her black waistcoat. She ran a hand through her short, slightly wavy, tuft of coal colored hair and pinned him to the ground with icy blue eyes. “I’ll have a talk with her.” “I’d hope so,” she huffed, shaking her head.“When does Gertie comeback?” “Next week.” “Wonderful. Find someone who can make coffee between now and then.” “I have,” he sighed.“In my defense, you can be intimidating.” “I’ll do more than intimidate them,” she said in a low, raspy tone that made the tiny hairs on the back of his neck stand up. “You’re going to be late, Siress,” he said, changing the subject and holding her cutaway coat open for her to step into. She ignored him, burnt coffee forgotten as she adjusted the white gold ring on her pinky finger and drank what looked like heavy dark wine from a stemmed glass nearby.
