Outlines the ICES web services used to support FIRMS Steering Committee agenda item 8d, including harvesting stock assessment data, mapping ICES stock status indicators to FIRMS indicators, and converting indicator states into traffic-light icons. Describes how to query ICES stock lists, retrieve assessment-year keys and stock status tables, monitor stock evolution via the ICES stock database, and drive a semi-automated workflow for generating, validating, integrating, and publishing ICES-FIRMS marine resource fact sheets.

FAQs

What are the main ICES web services used in this workflow?

The document lists ICES web services for stock assessment graphs, an ICES stock database via an OData V4 API, and vocabulary services for ICES stock codes.

How is ICES assessment data harvested for FIRMS?

It describes generating a FIRMS web service based on ICES web services, retrieving the available stock list by year, then using stock keys to obtain stock status values and stock status tables.

How are ICES stock state indicators translated into FIRMS indicators and traffic light icons?

The process maps StandardGraphStockStatus values per assessment key to FIRMS values, including MSY (line 1) to FishingPressureStatus and PA (line 2) to StockSizeStatus, then converts mapped states into traffic light icons.

What is the workflow for producing and publishing ICES-FIRMS marine resource fact sheets?

A semi-automated process generates an HTML table for FIGIS IDs, converts it using an Excel-to-XML tool, integrates downloaded fact sheets with reference data and metadata, uploads to the FIRMS CMS, and performs validation before publishing.
