We protect you from becoming sick. White blood cells protect you from viruses and bacteria. White blood cells live inside your body. We are so tiny you cannot see us. We have many, many, many twin brothers and sisters. All of us white blood cells protect your health! Have you heard about the COVID-19 virus that started making people sick in December 2019? That virus enters aperson's nose or mouth. Then it goes to their lungs. It causes dry cough and fever. Some people have di􀀣culty breathing. Some people have died. There are many di􀀰erent viruses. Some viruses don't hurt you at all. Other viruses make a lot of liquid come out of your nose. Still other viruses make you cough, have a fever and ache all over. There are also many bacteria. Some cause you to have diarrhea. Some can make it hard for sores on your body to heal. Some can make you cough and have a fever. Do you remember who helps you 􀀲ght against viruses and bacteria? Yes, it is your white blood cells! How do you think that bacteria and viruses get into your body? Look at your hands! Do you see any bacteria or viruses on them? Viruses and bacteria are very tiny. They are tinier than us white blood cells that 􀀲ght them!
