Fall 2016 Study Group FAQs Q. What certifications is SAHRA’s study group for? A. SAHRA is considering offering study prep for HRCI (SPHR and PHR) and SHRM. We have to have enough interest (at least 5 participants) to offer SHRM certification prep. The kick-off meeting will gauge interest around SHRM certification and also provide an informational session on both certifications with Sandy Dudley, VP of Career Management presenting on HRCI and Jon Decoteau, Divisional Director West, State of California Field Service Leader with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) presenting on SHRM certification. If SAHRA does not have enough interest in SHRM certification, the chapter is partnering with the San Joaquin HR Association which is offering a SHRM VIRTUAL Learning System certification prep course to expand human resource knowledge and prepare HR professionals for the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) exam. This 8-week VIRTUAL course is designed for individuals interested in preparing for the SHRM-CP/SHRMSCP exam, achieving professional advancement and building confidence for addressing today's human resource challenges. Q. Will SAHRA be offer CA certification prep? A. No. SAHRA is researching options for future CA certification study group opportunities. Q. What is the cost to participate? A. The cost to participate in the kick-off meeting is FREE, however the study group series is $150 plus the cost of materials and shipping (which is to be determined) . Q. How long is the Fall 2016 study group series? A. SAHRA will be offering 12 weeks of study and test prep sessions this Fall. Effective November 1, 2016 all PHR/SPHR certification exams will be available on any day of the year. SHRM, however, still has a testing window for both Spring and Winter, and their Winter testing window runs from December 1, 2016 through February 15, 2017. With HRCI’s change, the Fall study group will begin later this year, on the week of August 29th. The series will wrap up at the end of the week of November 14th to meet the beginning of SHRM’s testing window on December 1st. Do you have to be a SAHRA member to attend? A. You DO NOT have to be a SAHRA member to attend the kick-off meeting on Aug. 9th, but you DO have to be a CURRENT SAHRA member to register and participate in the 12-week study group series. Q. Do I have to pay for study group materials if I have them from the last session? A. If you have materials from 2016, you can use. SAHRA will not charge cost for materials-only registration ($150) if the materials are from 2016. They cannot be from previous years. In these cases, once the study group series registration opens up, SAHRA will have to process manually-not through the website. Materials have to be from our study group series in 2016-Distinctive HR materials. No other materials will work. Please contact our office if this situation applies to you. Q. What are the study group series materials? A. The study group materials includes a book, a 10-CD set, the “7 Princes” booklet, and flashcards.
