Faceting 101 - Lesson 7 - Harmonious Hexagon

Oct 26, 2026

This educational document provides a comprehensive guide to cutting the Harmonious Hexagon, a gemstone design by Arya Akhavan. As the seventh lesson in the Faceting 101 series, it introduces the barion cut technique, which involves creating a circular cone and reshaping it into a non-circular outline using specialized adapter faces. The guide details the technical specifications, including angles for a refractive index of 1.580, precise facet arrangements for the pavilion and crown, and symmetry instructions. Gem cutters are guided through the process of setting stone sizes, meeting facets, and achieving the specific geometric proportions required for the hexagon outline. This lesson emphasizes the mastery of complex facet junctions and is intended for practice with materials like morganite, offering a clear instructional framework for intermediate gemstone faceting techniques and geometric precision.
