Installation instructions for the Eyb Megaswitch® 3.0, focusing on correct magnet polarity and cable-to-coil assignments to achieve hum elimination. The guide explains how to identify equal or opposite polarity using magnets and tests with a multimetre or amplifier, and how to correct out-of-phase sound by rewiring hot/ground links for single-coil pickups and reconfiguring serial link wiring for humbuckers. It also describes mounting orientation and the terminal assignment logic for types E, M, P, S and T, including the use of soldering bridges and common handling tips.

Guitars Installation instructions for the Eyb Megaswitch® 3.0 It is necessary to know: · which magnets of different pickup coils are of equal or opposite polarity · which cables lead to these coils To achieve hum elimination, pickup coils with opposite magnetic polatity must be combined in parallel or serial mode. Equal poles repel, opposite poles attract eachother. To identify the polarities, you can take a magnet or a singlecoil pickup and hold one side of it on top of the coils of the pickup to be used for the Megaswitch wiring. If the magnets attract each other they are reversed polarity. If they repel each other they are equal polarity. If you are using humbuckers you have to identify cable assignments. Normally those are given by pickup manufacturers. You can identify these by connecting them to an electrical multimetre (set to 200 mV) . Knock the top of the coil with a magnetic item like a screw driver. If the multimetre reacts the cables belong to this coil. This can also be done acoustically by connecting the cables to an amplifier. If the correct coils are on but the sound is out of phase (thin and nasal) cables are tobe changed as follows: single coil pickups – exchange hot and ground wires. Humbuckers – disconnect the serial link wires, combine former hot and ground wiresand connect instead of former serial link. Connect the wires according to the identifications made before to hot and ground. Recommended polarities to receive hum cancelling: | Pickups

We highly recommend the have this done by an experienced guitar tech! The mentioned configurations can also be reversed. N = S and S = N will give the same results. Mount the Megaswitch with the pcb (print conductor board) facing the centre of the instrument. In left hand guitars reversed if there is enough space. If not all types of Megaswitches can be installed and wired in a left hand mode. Heat both ends with a soldering gun and then connect with solder. Using flux or solder with flux is recommended. It might take some practise to do this but it saves the effort of attaching jumper cables. Guitars The Eyb Megaswitch® 3.0 The new Eyb Megaswitch® 3.0 was designed to extend wiring options and at the same time make handling easier. The general quality also improved considerably: all contacts are gold plated, including the ones of the contact rotor. This improves contact quality and durability. The gear is made of sheet steel and levers can no longer break which used to happen to previous versions. They also fit into narrower control plate slots. No custom knobs necessary anymore – all standard US knobs fit which are available in all sorts of colours. The number of versions was reduced to 5: E, M, P, S and T. Although there are more terminals per pcb (print conductor board) hardly any jumper cables are needed thanks to soldering bridges that can be used to make the connections. Each terminal has 2 holes of 1,5 mm Ø which makes wiring easier. Also from the electric

FAQs

How do you identify whether pickup coils have equal or opposite magnetic polarity for Megaswitch wiring?

Hold one magnet or a single-coil pickup side on top of the target pickup coil. If the magnets attract, the polarity is reversed; if they repel, the polarity is equal. The same principle can be verified using coil connections and testing.

What should you do if the correct coils are installed but the sound is out of phase (thin and nasal)?

For single-coil pickups, exchange the hot and ground wires. For humbuckers, disconnect the serial link wires, then combine the former hot and ground wires and connect them instead of the former serial link, and follow the earlier hot/ground identifications.

How are the Megaswitch terminals assigned and linked using soldering bridges?

The terminals are assigned differently by type (E, S/T groups, PA, M, etc.) and neighboring terminals can be connected with soldering bridges. Heat both ends with a soldering gun, then join with solder, with flux or solder containing flux recommended.
