A manual-style text describing explosive-related materials and construction steps for “salutes,” including a glossary of key terms and explanations of hazards. It covers substances such as sulfur, aluminum powder, potassium chlorate, and potassium perchlorate, noting ignition, heat, fumes, and sensitivity to chemicals and friction. The document also outlines protective cautions, legal responsibility statements, and introductory guidance on selecting salute size based on materials and risk. Additional sections include materials lists and diagram references for fuse and end plug construction.

EXPLOSIVESLIKE GRANDPA USED TO MAKE BYLUKE BOOKER A PROFESSIONAL GUIDETO SAFE SALUTE CONSTRUCTION ※ GLOSSARY OF TERMS Sulfur-Sulfur is bought as ayellow powder.Itis not toxicin itself, but when it burns it emits poisonous sulfurdioxide. The mainhazard ofsulfur is the fumes it emitswhen burned. Alumlnum Powder(400 Pyro Mesh)·Aluminum pow-der is extremely useful in many compositions.Alumi-numpowdervaries incolorranging from blacktoshinysilver Aluminum powder is very easily ignited, and whenburnedproduces tremendous heat.Ifaluminumpow-deris involvedina fire, itwill actas anincendiary.Watershould not be thrown on it because an explosionmayresult. You shoulduse adass Dfire extinquishertoputthe fire out. OXIDIZER AGENTS Potasslum Chlorate-Potassium chlorate is avery impor-tant ingredient in explosives. It is usually bought as awhite powder.Potassium chlorate is an endothermiccompoundwhich means it canbe detonatedalone.Amixture of potassium chlorate and sugar makes apowerful explosive, and it is sensitive to friction.Re-member that any mixture containing potassiumchlorate will ignite on contact with concentratedsulfuric acid. Potasslum Perchlorate-Potassium perchlorate is also animportant ingredient in explosives. It provides moreoxygen than potassium chlorate. One way that it issuperior to potassium chlorate is that it doesn't reactwith sulfur duringstorage.Inmyopinion,usingpotas-sium chlorate in your powder will create a moreaggressive explosion.Ifyouuse perchlorate,it willstillbe loud, but just a little bit less aggressive. 数 TABLE OF CONTENTS CONTENTS PAGE Glossary of Term…………………………………………………………………2 Introduction…………………………………………………………………………………5 Materials needed………………………………………………………………………6 Diagram of Salute Construction……………………………………7 End plug construction……… ……………………………………8 Powder formula…………………………………………………………………………12 Powder mixing……………………………………………………………………14 Fuse placement………………………………………………………………16 Salute condusion…………………………………………………………………………19 Salute testing results … …………………………………………………19 ……………………………………………21 Underwater Salutes…… ………………………………………22 Using a Booster Charge … Helpful tips……………………………………………………………………………………23 List of suppliers…………………………………………………………………………24 Books and literature……………………………………………………………………25 Commercially made fireworks……………………………………26 Notes……………………………………………………………………………………27 The process of manufacturing salutes can beextremely dangerous. The user must be aware ofpotentlal hazards and dangers Involved, and thegreatest care should be taken when maklng salutesorany other devlce of thls nature. FAQs

Why is sulfur highlighted as a hazard in the glossary?

It notes that while sulfur itself is not toxic, burning it emits poisonous sulfur dioxide fumes. The main hazard comes from these fumes during combustion.

What precautions are given for handling aluminum powder?

It states aluminum powder ignites very easily, produces tremendous heat, and can act as an incendiary if involved in a fire. It warns not to throw water on it because an explosion may result and recommends using a Class D fire extinguisher.

What does the manual say about oxidizers like potassium chlorate and perchlorate?

It describes potassium chlorate as an important explosive ingredient that can be detonated alone and becomes a powerful explosive when mixed with sugar, sensitive to friction. It also explains potassium perchlorate provides more oxygen and is described as not reacting with sulfur during storage.
