Students are expected to take ownership of their learning in a flipped classroom by completing pre-class video work, submitting related online forms, and writing notes before coming to class. During lessons they must arrive on time, bring required equipment, start immediately, remain focused with no breaks until the scheduled halfway 5 minutes, and continue working until the teacher ends the session. The final semester grade is composed of classwork/homework (20%), end-of-topic tests (60%), and mid/end-year examinations (20%), with detailed credit-point and scoring rules.

Expectations of students Ultimately, the flipped classroom is all about students taking ownership over their own learning and being self motivated. However, in the real world some students, believe it or not, tend to not show the greatest of motivation initially and may coast through the work ata pace that is too slow when they are capable of so much more. For this reason, I have put some checks and balances in place that will externally motivate you to do your best. My hope is that eventually, every single student will give of their best and progress through the course, achieving a certain level of mastery over the content of the course. This will enable you to do more than just pass. It will cause you to perform to a level you can be proud of that will give you more opportunities for the future. So here are the rules of classroom work time: Before the class even starts you should have: • Already watched the video relating to the exercise you are starting in that lesson • Already completed and submitted the form relating to that video on the website. • Written some notes on the content of the video in your exercise book When you arrive in the classroom: • Arrive on time • Bring all required equipment. (iPad, Casio Classpad calculator, exercise book, question pack, pens, ruler etc.) • Be prepared to commence working immediately on arrival. • Stay focussed and on task throughout the lesson (There will be a designated break approximately halfway through for 5 mins)(No drink/toilet breaks until this break. Bring a water bottle to class if you wish) • Keep working right until the end of the lesson until told to stop by your teacher. If you fail to stick to one or more of these rules you may lose credit towards your final grade. See below for an explanation of how credit counts towards your final grade. Final Grading for the course Your Final End of Semester Grade is made up of 3 components Classwork/Homework 20% End of Topic Tests 60% Mid/End of Year Examination 20% Classwork/Homework Every class session has 5 credit points available for you to achieve. On arrival in class you are awarded 5 points and will keep these 5 points as long as you keep the criteria listed above about effective use of class time. Over the course of the year there are approximately 65-70 class sessions so there is a maximum of 300-350 credit points available. Your score will be calculated converted into a final classwork/homework score of up to a maximum of 20% . For example, if you lose just 1 credit point every lesson, you can only achieve a total of 16% out of the maximum of 20% available. Losing 2 points every lesson drops you to 12% out of 20% and so on. So each credit point lost is like losing half a grade for that particular lesson, ie dropping from A to B+ . So dont make ahabit of breaking these expectations. End of Topic Tests You are allowed to take an end of topic test multiple times (There are numerous different versions of the test) . You must score at least 75% before you can begin the next topic. Even if you score 75%, you may still retake the test to see if you can increase your score. You shouldn’t do this too many times as you could possibly waste too much time, but 2 or 3 times is perfectly acceptable. Every topic test is worth 15% of your final grade. There are 4 tests every term so this makes a maximum of 60% towards your final semester grade. The score which counts towards this final grade is calculated as follows. Score of 75% or higher in a test contributes 10% towards your final semester grade. Score of 80% or higher contributes 11% Score of 85% or higher contributes 12% Score of 90% or higher contributes 13% Score of 95% or higher contributes 14% Perfect score of 100% gives you the maximum 15 % towards your final semester grade Examinations Your end of semester exam is converted straight into a percentage with a maximum of 20% towards your final semester grade. Eg if you get
