This document provides a comprehensive overview of engineering piping system design, specifically focusing on the principles and methodologies of pipe drawing and flow theory. It outlines the various types of piping drawings, including floor plans (single and double line), schematic or riser diagrams, and detail drawings in both 2D and 3D. The text distinguishes between design drawings used for contract bidding, shop drawings prepared by contractors for installation, and as-built drawings that document the final system. Additionally, the document catalogs essential industry-standard symbols for fittings, joints, valves, and various specialized hardware like strainers and expansion joints to facilitate accurate technical communication and project documentation in industrial engineering environments.

FAQs

What are the primary types of piping drawings used in engineering design?

The primary types include floor plans (single and double line), schematic or riser diagrams (flat and isometric), and detail drawings in both 2D and 3D formats.

How do shop drawings differ from design drawings?

Design drawings are typically created by designers for contract bidding and are subject to revision, whereas shop drawings are prepared by contractors with greater detail to solve on-site problems and facilitate actual system installation.

What is the purpose of an as-built drawing?

As-built drawings are produced by contractors after installation is complete to accurately represent the system as it has been installed, serving as a critical reference for owners.
