Vol.41 No.23 MICROSOFT:BOTH SHOES DROP-MAYBE! In the long expected, but stilltraumatic ruling,Federal Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson at 4:30p.m.on Wed.June 7,ordered the breakup of Microsoftinto two companies, oneowning the operatingsystems, and the other applications and everything else. The government will seek to directly appealthe case to the Supreme Court, while Microsoft willseek to bring the matter before the U.S.Court ofAppeals. The U.S.Court of Appeals has differedextensively with Judge Jackson in its view as to thelegality ofbundling products.Indeed,Jackson himselfappeared moreinterested in seeing the matter appealeddirectly to the Supreme Court.
