Earth is like a jigsaw puzzle - Tell me why

Oct 13, 2026

A children’s science question-and-answer book explaining Earth and nature through simple, accessible explanations. It covers the atmosphere and why Earth needs a protective blanket, the rotation of Earth that causes day and night, seasonal changes driven by Earth’s tilt, why polar regions are colder than the tropics, and related phenomena across many chapters. Clear cause-and-effect descriptions help readers understand weather, light, ecosystems, and Earth-shaping processes in a memorable way.

FAQs

Why does Earth need an atmosphere?

Earth’s atmosphere is a thin blanket of gases that shields the planet from the Sun’s harmful rays and from meteors. It also helps life exist by providing breathable air and helps regulate how hot or cold Earth gets.

What causes it to get dark at night?

Earth is spinning. When your part of Earth turns away from the Sun, sunlight cannot reach you, so it gets dark and you experience nighttime. When your part turns back toward the Sun, sunlight returns.

Why are the polar regions colder than other places?

Polar lands are cold because the Sun’s rays travel farther through Earth’s atmosphere and arrive weaker. The curved surface also spreads the rays out, reducing heating power, and the white ice and snow reflect much of the Sun’s rays back into the sky.
