Destroying America - A Dossier on the CIA's Control of the Government - Anthony R. Frank

Aug 2, 2026

Destroying America examines how CIA operations were built and normalized inside the United States, linking bureaucratic planning to covert infrastructure that targeted Americans rather than foreign lands. Through a former insider’s account, it analyzes domestic cover identities, federal-unit surveillance, and contingency programs that enabled illegal activity while avoiding oversight. The narrative highlights public wrongdoing reviews such as the Rockefeller Commission, detailing claims about LSD testing and subsequent concealment efforts and records handling to frame broader government takeover dynamics.

Details on the insider are cited later in this book. The opening chapter lands like the first heavy footstep in a house where you thought you were alone and safe. Suddenly the walls feel thinner, the lights are dimmer, and you realize the structure you’ve lived inside for decades has been wired from within while you were sleeping. What lingers most is the calm, bureaucratic precision with which the chapter lays bare how an Agency created to operate solely in foreign lands spent years weaving an entire parallel infrastructure across American soil—cover identities that melted into businesses and federal hallways, specialized federal units keeping tabs on public demonstrations and private communications, and sinister programs that turned American society into an experimental laboratory for controlling the population. Government reports on CIA wrongdoing are examined in the chapter, and instead of screaming scandal, they document the scaffolding of the domestic infrastructure: the internal CIA memos weighing “flap potential,” the CIA contingency plans ready to be implemented, and the secret partnerships allowing the illegal operations to hum along without tripping alarms. You will close this chapter with the uneasy sense that the lines drawn when the CIA was created in 1947 were not merely crossed—they were systematically erased and redrawn in the Agency’s own handwriting. The chapter does not preach or sensationalize. It takes your feeling of comfort and shapes it into a feeling of great discomfort, leaving you, the reader, braced for the profound darkness that lies in the pages ahead. The Chapter The government takeover has always been contingent upon the CIA operating inside the United States. As such, the CIA spent decades building up a massive infrastructure for its domestic operations while atthe same time building up control of the government. In 1975, President Ford’s “Commission on CIA Activities Within the United States”(otherwise known as the Rockefeller Commission) stated that the CIA’s Directorate of Science and Technology had been putting“LSD and other potential behavior-influencing substances” into the food of “unsuspecting” Americans from 1953 to 1963.[1] CIA officers started drugging unsuspecting Americans “on the West Coast” in 1953, and by 1961, they were drugging unsuspecting Americans“on the East Coast.” The Rockefeller Commission, which consistently tried to gloss over the CIA’s domestic operations, claimed that the ten-year program of putting LSD and other drugs into the food of unsuspecting Americans “in normal social situations” was some kind of CIA “testing” operation, but the CIA eventually acknowledged that the alleged testing “made little scientific sense.”[2] In one drugging incident in 1953, a CIA officer met with Dr. Frank Olson, a civilian biochemist working for the Department of the Army, and surreptitiously
