EMT psychomotor examination checklist for Airway and Resuscitation skills, used to score a candidate during timed performance. The form outlines required PPE precautions, equipment preparation, suctioning and airway opening steps, placement of airway adjuncts, and delivery of ventilations with an assessed ventilation rate and adequate volumes. It also covers reassessment, initiation of high-quality two-minute one-rescuer CPR with minimal interruptions, AED retrieval and use, rhythm analysis and shock delivery, and immediate resumption of compressions. Critical failure criteria are listed for transport, patient management competency, professionalism, and safe interventions.

FAQs

What are the critical failure criteria for this EMT examination?

Failing to initiate or call for transport within the 15-minute time limit, failing to manage the patient as a competent EMT, showing unacceptable affect with the patient or other personnel, or using or ordering a dangerous or inappropriate intervention.

What suctioning and airway steps must the candidate perform?

Open the airway manually, prepare and use a rigid suction catheter to suction the mouth and oropharynx, then reopen the airway and insert an appropriate airway adjunct.

How does the form direct CPR and AED actions?

After confirmation of pulselessness and apnea, begin immediate compressions and perform two minutes of high-quality one-rescuer CPR with minimal interruptions. Then retrieve and power on the AED, connect it to the patient, stop CPR during rhythm analysis and shock, and resume chest compressions immediately after shock delivery.
