There was a valley between them. 1 Samuel 17:1-3 One Philistine soldier was a giant named Goliath. He was a very tall, strong man. He was three meters tall! He wore heavy metal armor for protection. His spear had an iron point that weighed about seven kilograms. 1 Samuel 17:4-7 Goliath shouted to the Israelite soldiers,“I ama Philistine! Choose a man to come fight with me! If he kills me, then we Philistines will become your slaves! But if I kill your man, then you Israelites will become our slaves!” 1 Samuel 17:8,9 Goliath shouted the same words every morning and every evening for forty days. King Saul and the Israelites were terrified! 1 Samuel 17:11, 16 Among the Israelite soldiers, there were three brothers. One day, Jesse, their father, spoke to his youngest son David. He said,“David! Go seeyour brothers at the battlefield and take some food to them. Then come home and tell me news about them.” 1 Samuel 17:13,17,18 David went to the Israelite soldiers’ camp.
