My plane landed from the BWI airport in Maryland thirty minutes ago. I was waiting for my homegirl to come and scoop me up. It’s been over ten years since I last seen her. Sadi was from Annapolis, Maryland, too, which was how I met her, but shorty moved to start over because of a drug addiction. I couldn’t believe that I kept in touch with her for all those years because I wasn’t the phone type of nigga. If it wasn’t for my right-hand man, Bogo, smashing her friend, I would’ve lost contact with her. So, I decided to come to Atlanta to be her date to her friend’s wedding. Basically, our friendship was long distance. I adjusted the volume to my headphones while listening to Kevin Gates. My phone beeped indicating that I had a text message. Someone tapped me on the shoulder while I was opening my messages. When I looked up, it washer. I stood up and pulled her into my arms to hug her. I stepped away from her and noticed she gained some weight. Sadi was slim years back, but the summer dress she wore hugged her curves. She used to wear short hairstyles but she grew her hair out, letting it come past her shoulders. The Georgia sun gave her a bronze complexion even though she was considered light-skinned. Shorty was always attractive but the woman standing in front of me was gorgeous. “You look good.” “I thought I was funny looking,” she replied. Sadi used to be one of those bourgeois stuck-up broads and even when she was on drugs, she still had that same attitude. Long story short, I wasn’t digging shorty before she left Maryland. She had that light-skinned privileged attitude back then. Sadi used to think her pretty hazel eyes and good grade of hair defined her until she got a taste of real life. But my views on her changed once I got to know the real her. She was young, spoiled and naïve to a lot of shit but now she was down-to-earth. “Come on, shorty. I wasn’t talking about your physical appearance. Your attitude made you ugly but we past that,” I replied. She told me to follow her and I grabbed my luggage off the bench. When we left the airport, she pointed me in the direction of a black Ford Explorer. I remembered a time where she wasn’t pushing nothing but foreign whips but that was when she was dating a drug dealer named Stacy. I put my luggage in the trunk then got in the passenger ’s seat. She was listening to Jhene Aiko on the radio so I changed it. Sadi popped my hand. “Don’t touch my shit,” she said. “I might have to jack your little ass up. I see your mouth got slicker,” I replied. “It comes from talking to you every day. I had to step my comeback game up,” she laughed. We argued on the way to her crib but that’s how we clicked. Atlanta traffic wasn’t a joke and it took an hour to get to her condo. My phone vibrated for the tenth time but I ignored it.
