COUGAR CONNECTION OCTOBER 2019 CACTUS VALLEY ELEMENTARY 222 GrandAve. Silt, Colorado Main Line: 970-665-7850 Attendance Line: 970-665-7874 A message from the Principal and Assistant Principal Dear CVE Families, It’s hard to believe October is already here! Throughout the school, you’ll see focused learning and evidence that we are continuing to DREAM BIG at CVE! Our data confirms our students are continuing to grow and achieve. We also scored above the district in ALL Content Areas, and above the state of Colorado in the following areas: • 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade ELA (English Language Arts) • 3rd Grade Math • 5th Grade Science (significantly above the state by 15%) • CVE students scored below the state in 4th Grade Math by 5% and in 5th Grade Math by 3% . We know there is always room to grow and achieve, and our teachers and staff are continuing to develop our work around best teaching strategies, looking at the data, and implementing what’s best for our CVE students! Tardies Matter Too! We work hard at CVE to support our students being in class and on-time every day and we need your help! In the first seven weeks of school, 25% of our students have been tardy! 48% of these are students who have been tardy more than one day. Parents, please help! Our school-wide attendance team will be putting in place some incentives fr parents and students to reward students who are here on time! Below are some reasons why it’s important to have your child at school on-time daily: • Research found that students who are frequently late to school often miss out on important opening announcements and academic activities. OUR VISION IS TO DEVELOP HAPPY-HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS AND STAFF • Arriving late to school can also mean that students miss out on activities designed to build connections with their peers, potentially impacting their social interactions and creating a greater sense of alienation from their classmates. • Chronic tardiness can significantly reduce the minutes of instruction for all students enrolled in the class, not just the tardy student. • When a student is tardy they face the challenge of trying to settle in and catch up with what other students are doing. PLEASE UPDATE POWERSCHOOL INFORMATION FOR YOUR CHILD: • Not only do we need to have your current phone number, address, and email, but technology isin use daily for your child at CVE, and WE MUST HAVE THE INTERNET USE FORM SIGNED! We also need your permission to post photos of your child, and this form is included with the updating of your information. • We have computers available for you to use in our office if you don’t have access to technology to complete the update! We will also be available on Oct. 16th and 17th during conferences. • Simply call the office if you need your Access Code for on-line registration. • Here is the link to update your child’s information: [https://registration.powerschool.com/family/](https://registration.powerschool.com/family/)[ ](https://registration.powerschool.com/family/)message?code=actionclosed We look forward to seeing you at our Parent/Teacher Conferences on Oct. 16th and 17th. You will be receiving information soon about how to sign up for your child’s conference. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and to ask questions you might have to support your child’s learning. We believe in the importance of partnering with you in order to provide the best education for your child. Thank you to all who attended our Fall Family Fiesta! Together we can ensure the social, emotional, and educational growth for our kids to Dream Big and become anything they choose in life! Sincerely, Kelly Detlefsen & Simone Richardson OUR VISION IS TO DEVELOP HAPPY-HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS AND STAFF COUNSELOR’S CORNER Happy Fall! First Quarter is coming to a close.
